For how long do the Dyson V10 and V11 work

The Dyson V10 and V11 origin have a built-in battery that lasts up to 15 years. The newest Dyson V11 Outsize has swappable batteries, one of which lasts up to 60 minutes giving you flex on battery life. You can get another battery to double up the battery life.

Low power settings Medium power settings High power settings
Dyson V10 46-61 minutes 26-30 minutes 5-9 minutes
Dyson V11 66-81 minutes 39-43 minutes 8-14 minutes
Dyson V11 Outsize (2x batteries) 120 minutes 80 minutes 10 minutes

*the difference between cleaning time depends on the extra tool you use

With the Dyson V11 you get ~60-70 minutes of battery life. With two batteries the V11 Outsize lasts up to 120 minutes. It is perfect for bigger homes

What features do the Dyson V10 and V11 share

Even though there are a few improvements, the Dyson V10 and V11 have a lot in common. We do not include the V11 Outsize because it is significantly different from the V11 Origin and could have been a completely new model.

Both the Dyson V10 and V11 have a sealed filtration system with a HEPA filter which means the dust stays inside the dustbin as you clean. This is important for everyone, not only allergy sufferers.

The Dyson V10 and V11 don't let the dust out as you vacuum. Safe for everyone

The filter should be washed with water to provide better cleaning performance without suction loss.

The Dyson V10 and V11 have a 760 ml dustbin. It is relatively big which is important if you have pets. The V11 Outsize is equipped with the biggest dust cup (1,890 ml) in the industry.

With a big dustbin, the Dyson is ideal for pet owners

Both come with a Torque Drive head which has stiff bristles and is ideal for agitating dust and dirt on carpets. It does the job on hard floors too but is not as good as the soft roller. It has gates that when closed provide better pressure with carpet thus getting deeper cleaning. When opened those are ideal for letting bigger particles in.

The Torque Drive cleaning head has gates that allow in even the biggest debris

Compared to the older models, those two have three cleaning modes to choose from depending on cleaning tasks. Max mode gives you the most suction power but at the same drains the battery faster.

Dyson V11 vs. V10: what has changed

Now let's get into the differences between the two. Keep in mind, the V11 Absolute is not available in the US and none of the V11 modifications has a soft roller in the box. If you mostly have hard floors, the Absolute would be the best. Getting a soft roller separately is an option too.

The Dyson V11 Absolute is the only model in the V11 lineup (in the US) that comes with a soft roller in the box

The Dyson V11 Outsize is not included in the list. It has the biggest size, cleaning head, and dustbin.

The Dyson V10 comes with extra cleaning tools for different needs. There is not much of a difference between the three modifications. As we talked about in the Dyson model comparison chart, the V10 has three modifications: Motorhead, Animal, and Absolute. The difference between the three is an accessory kit and also, the Motorhead modification has the smallest dustbin.

The Motorhead has the Direct-drive cleaner head that doesn't work as well on bare floor, especially at picking up bigger debris. It is the most baseline model with almost no extra accessories and also the smallest dustbin (540 ml) of the three.

The Animal comes with more extra accessories and has a different cleaning head (Torque drive cleaner head). It also has a bigger dustbin (770 ml).

The Dyson V10 Absolute has all the same accessories as the Animal version, plus an additional soft-roller head for hard floor cleaning.

Dyson claims the V10 has a motor that has the most powerful suction of any cord-free vacuum. The V10 was the most powerful cordless vacuum cleaner on the market before the V11 had been launched.

With such suction, the Dyson V10 can be used on hard floors and all types of carpets too. It is also cheaper than the V11.

The Dyson V10 Absolute is an ideal vacuum cleaner for small to average homes with carpets and lots of hard floors. If you don't need all the bells and whistles of the V11, the Dyson V10 would be a good buy.

The Dyson V11 lineup includes 4 models. The Outsize is an absolutely different model with different specs, a bigger size, and is also heavier. The Animal, Torque Drive, and Absolute have the only difference, the accessory kit.

The Dyson V11 display shows current cleaning mode and estimated battery life

When comparing the Animal with Torque Drive, you will notice that the Animal version has a mini dustbin brush, which the Torque Drive lacks. It also has a more basic display with no countdown timer. Other than that, the specifications & performance are the same.

The Dyson V11 is 20% more powerful comapred to the Dyson V10

Because of surface detection and a display, the Dyson V11 is more intelligent than its predecessor. Longer battery life makes it suitable for big houses.

The Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) technology intelligently changes the motor speed between hard floors and carpets providing deeper cleaning on carpeted surfaces

Both Dyson models are easy to turn into handheld if needed.

Compared to the V10, the Dyson V11 is more intelligent and efficient. It has longer runtime and better cleaning performance. It would be ideal for those who want the most powerful cordless vacuum with smart features but without being as heavy as the Dyson V11 Outsize.

The Dyson V11 Outsize is bigger and heavier than the V11 Original. A bigger and wider cleaning head gets the job done faster. The Outsize was designed for big homes with lots of carpets and pet hair as it is equipped with the largest dustbin in the industry. Because of being bigger, the cleaner is also bulkier and heavier.

If you live in a big house with mostly high-pile shaggy carpets, the V11 Outsize is the cleaner you need.

Is the Dyson V11 clean significantly better than the V10?

During deep carpet clean test, both scored 99% and 100% of sand respectively on high power settings. On medium and low settings it was clear that the V11 does better on the carpet deep clean test scoring 98 and 91% of sand (V10: 89/82%).

When getting dust from the crevices, the Dyson V10 needs twice as many passes as the V11.

In terms of battery life, the Dyson V11 lasts longer but also takes 1 hour more to recharge. Because of having a bigger battery, it is 1 pound heavier which is noticeable in the long-term run.

On carpet surface cleaning, both do amazingly well and there is no significant difference between the two.

On hard floors, there is no difference between the two as long as you don't use a soft roller which is ideal for this kind of surface. Especially noticeable with larger debris.

Overall, the Dyson V11 does better with deep carpet clean and lasts longer but also heavier and takes one hour more to recharge

To sum it up: which Dyson to buy?

Both models perform well on both: carpet and bare floor.

Even though the Dyson V10 is older and has less suction power, it is enough to provide deep cleaning on carpets. Yes, the Dyson V11 ensures more power even on medium power settings, it only means that with the Dyson V10, you most likely have to go over the dirty spot a few times. Besides, the price point of the Dyson V10 makes it a better value and the Absolute version with a soft roller is available in the US. If you don't need the extra features, live in a small to average house, and are not ready to spend more, go with the Dyson V10 Absolute.

On the other hand, if you are willing to spend more on the Dyson V11 Animal, you get more power, longer runtime, a display, smart carpet identification yet no soft roller, which is not that big of a deal if you mostly have carpets. If you have lots of hard floors, you can optionally buy the soft roller head on Amazon.

For ~$60 more depending on occasional discounts, with the Dyson V11 Torque Drive, you get a more advanced LCD display with a countdown timer and a dust-cleaning tool.

The Dyson V11 performs better with a deep carpet clean so if you mostly have carpets, you might consider paying more for the V11.

And for those who live in a big house with lots of carpets and tons of pet & human hair, the Dyson V11 Outsize would be a good option to buy.
